Professional Background

Dr Orford grew up and schooled in Brisbane.  He studied medicine at University of QLD, and graduated with an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) in 1990.

After completing a hospital internship, Dr Orford served a rural country scholarship, and then returned to major metropolitan hospitals to enter specialist training.  Six month terms as a senior resident in General Medicine, Paediatrics, and 12 month terms in Anaesthetics and ICU was followed by a 6 month Diploma in Obstetrics, where he discovered a calling in women’s health.

Dr Orford began the 6 year Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1995, and was awarded his FRANZCOG (Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology) in January 2001. The final year of specialist training was aimed especially at extending his surgical skills in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery.

He has performed hundreds of advanced (level 4-5) laparoscopic cases including:

  • Fertility surgery,
  • Removal of endometriosis,
  • Pelvic floor repair,
  • Bladder continence procedures,
  • Removal of ovaries, and
  • Full hysterectomy

Dr Orford now demonstrates and teaches:

  • Advanced laparoscopy to senior college trainees
  • Hosts laparoscopic hysterectomy workshops for specialist gynaecology colleagues from around Australia and New Zealand. Through the Sunshine Coast Private Hospital he has hosted attendees from: Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Perth, Adelaide, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and New Zealand.

Laparoscopic surgery has remained a major interest for Dr Orford as it:

Allows enhanced views of pelvic anatomy and pathology

Offers less pain than open surgery

Requires shorter hospital stays

Allows quicker return to work / life activities

The enormous satisfaction of attending the birth of a new baby still drives Dr Orford’s practice in Obstetrics.

Dr Orford will work with you, not only to provide excellent medical care for you, but to communicate with you about each step of your care.

Welcome to our women’s health practice. I feel very humbled to be entrusted with assisting the health and wellbeing of women at all stages of life.
