Obstetrics

Dr Orford is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG). He obtained this qualification in Jan 2001, having completed the six years of specialist training required, and has been in private practice since then. He has looked after thousands of women during the course of their pregnancy and childbirth.

Our practice recognises that every patient’s journey is different, for a multitude of reasons, and our goal is to individualise each woman’s/couple’s care to provide them with a healthy and happy outcome for their pregnancy.

We believe this process starts with effective communication and we strive to achieve this.

A wide range of services is available through our practice, including:

Antenatal visits

Midwifery visits with our practice midwives - Tara and/or Sue

Basic ultrasound services

Amniocentesis

Manages both high and low risk pregnancy

Natural birthing

Water birthing if appropriate

Caesarean Section

Hospital:

Dr Orford attends Buderim Private Hospital for all births and theatre cases.

The Buderim Private Hospital at Buderim has developed a contemporary maternity service that unites traditional childbirth with modern technology and practices. Its professional care team support and encourage your choice from the available birthing options, including natural births to caesarean or water births.

The hospital is also proud to have received international recognition as a Baby Friendly Hospital. This means it is part of a worldwide initiative of the World Health Organization and UNICEF to support mothers to breastfeed babies.

Peri-natal Support:

As part of a holistic approach to women’s health we screen / survey for risk factors toward post natal mental health concerns. We are able to arrange counselling and treatment if required or requested or as necessary.

Fee’s:

Dr Orford’s fee structure can be explained over the phone with our staff, but medicare and private health cover (if applicable) will cover the majority of costs.

On Call Arrangements:

Dr Orford is usually on call 24 hours a day from Monday morning until Friday night for all his own patients, and is contactable and available throughout this period.

Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a complex, demanding specialty with a large amount of our work being done after hours at unpredictable times, therefore, it is not possible to work effectively or safely being on call continually. So, to offer our patients quality, 24 hours a day, care, Dr Orford shares on call work with five other Obstetrician/Gynaecologists based in Buderim.

These Doctors are: Dr George Bogiatzis, Dr Nerida Flannery, Dr Kylie Isaacs, Dr Kelvin Larwood and Dr Kirsten Morrow. They have a formalised weekend roster system so that one doctor is rostered on each weekend to cover all patients. Any periods of fatigue leave, holiday leave, sick leave, family leave and conference leave are also covered by these doctors.
